Dave Burna Rips Up Airwaves
As you probably know by
now, I'm taking a break from the airwaves while I take time to get to
know my new little boy, Henry (no, I did NOT name him Henry so that I
could call him Hank. Or did I...?) In the meantime, Dave Burna has done
a top-notch job hosting the Roadhouse!

"It's
my show now, and I'll play what I want!" rants a power-crazed Dave
Burna.
Dave has brought more of
a bluesy flavor to the show while keeping with the country/rockabilly/roots-rock
format. His knowledge of music is formidable, and he brings it to bear
every Tuesday night from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Tune in live at 91.5 FM if you're
in the greater Medford, Massachusetts, area, listen
online, or listen to prerecorded
Roadhouse shows.
"Hank IV"
Makes Stunning Debut
On Friday, July 26, my
husband Mike and I welcomed Henry Mitchell Foley into the world.
I was totally unprepared
for the wave of mushiness that would wash over me upon getting to know
my little guy. He's so cute! And I'm throwing myself into the role of
motherhood. I'm beginning to scare people...

If
Henry could talk, he'd tell you that it's an honor to be featured on the
Roadhouse Web site.
Now, I usually don't like
to receive photographs of newborns because basically they all look alike,
right? But if you're the sentimental type you can see
pictures of Henry at Mike's Web site.
Bloodshot Releases Kids'
Album Even I Can Stand

The
gang at Bloodshot Records assembled some of the finest names in roots
rock for a fun compilation album that promises to become a family favorite.
Many
of the featured artists on The Bottle Let Me Down: Songs for Bumpy
Wagon Rides are themselves parents. They have created a disc that
entertains young and old alike and have given aging Gen Xers like myself
an alternative to the seemingly endless stream of Barney and Raffi albums.
The CD has many old favorites
such as "On Top Of Spaghetti" performed by Jane Baxter Miller
and "Little Red Riding Hood" by Freakwater. You'll also find
soon-to-be classics, such as "Don't Wipe Your Face On Your Shirt"
by the Cornell Hurd Band and "Godfrey" by Robbie Fulks.
Even if you're not a parent
or have no immediate plans to become one, this is a great disc to add
to your collection. You're sure to find something you like among the 26
wonderful songs!

Laura Joins Robbie Fulks
on Stage, Steals Show
Here's a life lesson for
you. If you bring a camera with you to an show in order to be photographed
with a performer, UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES
should you return the camera to your car because it's "too heavy
to carry around."
My husband Mike took this
picture of me and Robbie Fulks on June 9 at Club 608 in Somerville, MA.
Who could have predicted that toward the end of his act, Robbie would
invite me on stage to help him perform "Knothole" from his 13
Hillbilly Giants album!

Laura
assigns blame for "her delicate condition" to Robbie Fulks,
who for the record denies everything.
Having only to sing the
word "knothole" and to country-rap a phrase he whispered to
me before the song, I must say I performed admirably. During the musical
break I shook what I got, much to the delight of the audience.
Robbie is a great performer,
a fabulous musician, and, most importantly, a really nice guy. Now go
out and buy his music at RobbieFulks.com!
